The Chowchilla Family Express is back up and running!
The Chowchilla Family Express is back up and running! Our first trip was Sunday, February 28th, from San Diego. A very happy busload of 50 passengers arrived at the two women’s prisons in Chowchilla for a joyful day of visiting. Everyone got in and we extend our gratitude to the prison leadership and staff at Valley State Prison for Women and Central California Women’s Facility for their support.
One dad brought his three grandchildren to meet their mother for the first time after 7 years. It was a joyful moment for all. We have come to see clearly that families are primary partners in rehabilitation: they freely come to visit with the intent of someday bringing their loved one home for good. With the support of their families, the likelihood of successful re-entry for prisoners increases dramatically.
We are thrilled that this program continues to be fully funded by the CDCR; and that thousands more grateful families will be able to stay in relationship with their loved ones in prison. We know how much families value this vital connection and take this opportunity to celebrate and share their happiness with you.
